My QR code isn't scanning. What could be wrong?

Last updated on September 29, 2025

If you're having trouble scanning, check these common issues:

  • Size: The QR code may be too small. For print, we recommend a minimum size of 2cm x 2cm (about 1 inch x 1 inch).
  • Contrast: There must be a strong contrast between the code's pattern and its background. A dark code on a light background is best. Avoid combinations like yellow on white or grey on black.
  • Quiet Zone: Ensure there is a blank margin (a "quiet zone") around the edges of the QR code. Don't place other text or graphics right up against it.
  • Logo Obscurity: If you've added a logo, make sure it doesn't cover too much of the QR code's pattern, as this can interfere with scanning. Our tool automatically calculates the right level of error correction.
  • Surface: Placing a code on a highly reflective, curved, or uneven surface can make it difficult for a camera to read.
